Terms of Use

Last updated: May 2026

Welcome. This page covers the basic ground rules for using chriscottonux.com — what you can do with the content here, what I'll do for you, and the limits we both need to live with. By using the site you're agreeing to these terms; if you don't, please head somewhere else.

What this site is

This is a portfolio and information site for Chris Cotton, an independent UX designer working under the name "Chris Cotton UX". The site advertises my services, shares writing and case studies, and lets you contact me. Nothing on this site is a binding offer of work, a guaranteed price, or professional advice — it's marketing.

Using the site

You're welcome to browse, share links, quote short excerpts with attribution, and screenshot the work for non-commercial purposes (lookbooks, mood boards, "look at this thing" Slack messages). What you may not do without written permission:

Intellectual property

All original writing, photographs, illustrations, animations, case studies and code on this site are © Chris Cotton, except where noted. Project work shown was produced for clients (Australia Post, CBRE, Wilsons, CoreLogic, RFS NSW, Sony Music and others) and is shown here with permission for the purpose of demonstrating my role on each project. Logos and brand marks on those case studies remain the property of their respective owners.

The blog posts on this site are mine. You're welcome to quote a paragraph or two with a link back. For longer reuse, ask first — I'll usually say yes.

If you contact me

Sending a message via the contact form, email, LinkedIn or X is an opening — not a contract. We have a working relationship only once both of us agree, in writing, on scope, price and timeline (a Statement of Work, a signed proposal, or even a clear email exchange). Until then, anything we discuss is exploratory and confidential on both sides.

Pricing & the slider

The pricing bars and slider on the home page show indicative ranges, not fixed quotes. Real engagements get scoped and priced individually after a conversation about your goals, constraints and timeline. The currency conversion is approximate (rates are set manually, not live) and is for planning purposes only.

The Ask-AI feature

The "Ask AI" panel uses a language model to answer questions about my work, process and pricing using a knowledge base I've curated. It can be wrong, miss nuance, or invent details. Treat it as a quick guide, not a binding source. For anything that matters — pricing, availability, scope, advice — talk to me directly.

External links

The site links out to LinkedIn, X, Formspree, Netlify, third-party blog posts and client projects. Following a link takes you to those sites under their own terms — I have no control over their content, privacy or behaviour, and I'm not responsible for it.

No warranties

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". I do my best to keep it accurate, fast and online, but I can't guarantee it will be free of bugs, downtime, or out-of-date claims. Nothing on the site is professional, legal, financial, or medical advice. Use what you read here at your own discretion.

Limitation of liability

To the extent allowed by Australian law, I'm not liable for any indirect, consequential or incidental losses arising from your use of this site or anything you do based on it. If a court decides I am liable for something, my total liability is capped at the greater of (a) AU$100, or (b) the fees you've paid me directly under a separate, signed agreement during the previous twelve months.

Indemnity

If you misuse the site — for example, by violating the rules above and causing me to face a third-party claim — you agree to cover the reasonable costs of dealing with that claim.

Termination

I can update, restrict, or take down this site (or any part of it) at any time, for any reason. If you behave abusively toward me or anyone working with me, I'll block you and stop responding.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of New South Wales unless we both agree otherwise in writing.

Changes to these terms

If anything material changes, I'll update this page and bump the date at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
